New Zealand qualifies for inaugural ICC World Test championship final 2021 at Lord's.

New Zealand becomes the first team to qualify for the inaugural world test championship final to be held at Lords in June 2021 after Australia postpone his tour of South Africa due to surge in Covid cases in the country. The second team is to be decided from England, Australia and India while India being the favourites of every cricket experts and fans after the magical performance against Australia in a recently concluded test series.

The chances of Australia touring south Africa and playing a test series before the ICC test championship qualifications cycle period ending on 31st March 2021 are very slim. As a result, New Zealand has qualified for the ICC test championship finals and there is a competition between Australia, England and India. The series between India and England could be the last before the qualifications process ends, so Australia will be curiously watching the series as their qualifications will solely depend upon various permutation which is possible in this series. England has to beat India at least by 3-0 in the series to get a chance to qualify for the inaugural world test championship to be held at Mecca of cricket in Lord's.

Let check out few permutations which are possible in the series and various implications on England, Australia and India which are in contention to play the finals at Lords.

Australia
Australia can make the final if:
  • England win by 0-1, 0-2, and 1-2
  • India win by 1-0
  • The series ends in a draw
India

India can make the final if :
  • India wins by 2-0, 2-1, 3-0, 3-1, 4-0
  • India needs to win at least 2 test matches, in a series win.
  • Any other results and India are out.
England

England can make the final if:

  • England wins the series, by winning at least 3 test matches.
  • England win by 0-4, 0-3 or 1-3.
Even a series win against India may prove to be insufficient for England to qualify for the final's at Lord's as they will be very desperate to play in the inaugural test championship in their home ground. If England qualifies than there will be another final at Lord's, in exactly after 4 years from July 2019 ICC ODI world cup when New Zealand got beaten by England in a nail-biting contest where luck played a huge role in England victory over New Zealand. However, the formats are different this time around but the excitement will be at another level as there has been some history between both teams and New Zealand will now try to take revenge and the crowd will be cheering for New Zealand this time around as they were unlucky in a close bitting contest on an early occasion.

After the horror of Finals of ICC ODI world cup at lord's, New Zealand finally found a bit of luck as postponement of Australia-South Africa series, provided them with an opportunity for automatic qualifications for finals at Lord's. Now all eyes are on India vs England series starting next week, as there is a lot of buzz for a test series to be played in India, thanks to ICC test championship for adding some relevance in test match cricket as there is some objective behind touring countries for test match cricket.
