England Rotation Policy dilemma !
Ed Smith, the chief selector of England cricket is going forward with a rotation policy for multi-format players in the winter season to ensure they are fresh and injury-free for the summers season in England.
No one is against the idea of rotation policy to ensure players are well fit and are not prone to various injuries in a full hectic schedule of cricket this year. As life is getting back on track after covid, so the number of cricket series that got cancelled last year will eventually have to fit in this year, making this year even more hectic for players. But the question is why would someone want to rest his key players for India series?
Everyone knows it's the toughest place to play test match cricket for teams outside of subcontinent and this is the most awaited series for players and cricket fans to look forward to. So any team that is touring India for a Test series, wants that a full-fledged squad should be participating in the series and no one misses out due to injury. So what the team management does, it gives proper rest to all their key playerseespeciallyying multi-format cricket to ensure all key players are participating in that important series.
Now in this particular scenario, ed smith chief selector of England cricket has gone with rotation policy for multi-format players in six test match this winter in three blocks of two test match for each multi-format player resulting in Jonathan Bairstow, marks woods and sam Curran rested for first two test match against India starting 5th Feb.
Why do you want to rest your key player in such high profile series, taking also into account that ICC test championship qualifications also depend on how this series goes for england. No one can deny the number of cricket players is playing nowadays, it's very important to give proper rest to them so they are not prone to injuries and a good bunch of young players are also get an opportunity to play at the highest level which could help the team to expand their pool of players.
No matter what favourable argument anyone comes up with, to support the rotation policy, I am never in favour of resting players forms for crucial test series or in general any big series. For the first two tests, we will not see the lights of young sam Curran who was the man of the series against India last time they played against each other when India tour England in 2018-2019. I don't know what will be going in the mind of the sam Curran but if I was in his position I would be feeling very disappointed for missing out on a big series to showcase the world the talent he is and particularly playing in India against India is generally followed by everyone very keenly.
England should surely analysis their rotation policy especially for big series like India otherwise they will draw a lot of criticism especially if they don't play well in this series.
