England want's to make India mentally and physically tired !
Even after scoring more than 550 runs, England kept batting till the last ball of day 2 raising a lot of eyebrows regarding the approach of England player's and their strategy going in the series.
Some cricket pundit's criticised the strategy of England team of being playing too defensive cricket by ensuring they are not losing this test match and not batting again in second innings. Even when 8 wickets were down and around 10 overs were left for the day, Joe did not declare the innings rather they were playing defensive innings to close the day without any more fall of wickets which shows signs they will continue batting few more overs in 1st session of day 3, which does not go well with the cricket experts as they were heavily criticised for their "too defensive game".
But what I am analysing here is the strategy of Joe root and team management to physically and mentally drain Indian in the first test, so that they can take advantage in upcoming series and put India on the backfoot. The point can be further justified when after the close of day 1, Joe reveals plans of putting 600-700 runs in 1st innings, thus clearly showing signs of playing long to mentally drain the opposition and then attacking thereafter. But whether this strategy will pay a dividend to England or not it will be known sooner than later though intentions are clear that England have a game-plan in place and they are quite close to achieving the same.
Whether the strategy of England is right or not that surely will be decided in future, what's more, important is how their bowlers especially spin performed after the batsman have done their job pretty well and posted a very good total in first innings of a test match.
