Doon Boy Easwaran Could make his debut for India tomorrow - 1st Test India Vs England 2021 Preview

Abhimanyu Easwaran interview with Crictracker

England great James Anderson said Tuesday he was "excited" by the prospect of facing India captain Virat Kohli again as two of the world's best cricketers prepare for yet another head-to-head clash.

Amidst the excitement of the ongoing Tokyo Olympics, a very big cricket Test series is also all set to get underway.

A five Test series between India and England will begin on Wednesday, August 4. The last series India won on English soil was way back in 2007, under Rahul Dravid's leadership. Before that India defeated England twice - 1971 (Ajit Wadekar) and 1986 (Kapil Dev).

Just like India did at home earlier this year, the seasoned James Anderson says, England must play to their advantage in the five-match Test series against the fancied visitors, by preparing "good pitches" with pace and bounce.

The return series begins with the opening Test here from Wednesday.

"I don't think India can have any complaints if we do leave a bit of grass on because what we came up against (them) on our tour of India last time, we certainly played into India's hands.

They used their home advantage to their benefit and I think a lot of teams around the world do it," Anderson said during a con-call with select Indian journalists on Monday.

"One of the game's finest seamers with 617 Test wickets to his name, Anderson added, "So, if there is grass left on it, India have got a strong seam attack as well.

"I would be hoping for some good pitches, we want pace and carry in our pitches, certainly from seam attack's selfish point of view, we want pace and bounce, because we know it's going to swing, so nicks just carry.

"That picture of the pitch (here) was taken three days before the first Test. A lot can change in between. I'm sure they are going to trim some grass and roll it as well."

Doon Boy Abhimanyu Easwaran could make his debut for India tomorrow

India opener Mayank Aggarwal will miss the Trent Bridge Test because of concussion, after he was hit in the head by a Mohammed Siraj bouncer in the nets two days before the match, the first of a five-Test series.

As far as India's options are concerned, Easwaran last played first-class cricket more than 15 months ago and missed the tour game as he was in isolation following a Covid-19 incident in the Indian camp. The reason for calling up Shaw was to have another opening option, with reports that Rahul and Vihari were being looked at primarily as middle-order batters. Moving Pujara up would likely have a knock-on impact on the rest of the order too, and could mean Virat Kohli and others moving one spot up.

The selectors had added Prithvi Shaw and Surya Kumar Yadav who were in Sri Lanka with the Indian white-ball squad, as back-ups, but they are yet to reach England and are expected to be available only from the third Test onwards because of the quarantine protocols in place.

Hanuman Vihari and Chesteshwer Pujara have in the past opened for India as stop-gaps, but India's vice-captain Ajinkya seemed to rule out asking Pujara to move up from his usual No. 3 spot.

There are few chances that Abhimanyu will debut for India tomorrow. His father, Ranganathan Parameshwaran Easwaran, was passionate about the game although he couldn't make it a career due to the family's financial situation. He switched over to Chartered Accountancy while building a cricket academy in Dehradun in 1988. He named it the Abhimanyu Cricket Academy. Certainly it will be a very proud moment for his family specialy his father.

Coming from Dehradun, I have heard some great stories of Abhimanyu class and temperament. My schoolmates used to tell me their experience while playing in interschool cricket playing against him that how classy and techniquely sound he is at that age. It would be very exciting for everyone of us to look forward to watch him play tomorrow.
